Guest Speaker: Brittany Cabrera, Media Specialist, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department
Brittany Cabrera began her career in 2012 with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department as an intern with the Juvenile Intervention Program. She earned her B.A. in Criminal Justice from California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). In May 2014, Brittany was hired by the department in the Public Affairs Division as the Media Specialist to create and manage the department's official social media accounts and digital media outreach. She then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from CSUSB and wrote her thesis on the effective use of social media for law enforcement. Brittany’s responsibilities include providing social media training, managing the various sheriff’s department accounts, creating public service announcements, Spanish media relations, and providing the public with relevant and timely information during critical incidents. She has held various internal trainings for department personnel and has spoken at several PIO group meetings/panels on crisis communication and law enforcement leveraging social media.
