From Your President: Connect and Share Your Stories

The recent Meet the Media event at County of Riverside District Attorney’s Office was exceptional. What an invaluable opportunity to take a moment to share stories with each other and hear from our local media professionals about what they need from us. Loud and clear we heard about the importance of understanding an outlet’s focus/mission, providing complete packages (text, images, video, access to interviewees), proper communication channels (email preferred for most), and—especially—building relationships with reporters. They want to help elevate our brands, our messages and our experts to the benefit of the Inland Empire community, so working together is key.
Oh, and remember to include your contact information in your email signature!
I loved seeing how guests hung around after the event concluded to talk and exchange information. I’ve made such great connections and gotten some of the best advice through networking at events like these. If you weren’t able to make it to our March event, I hope you’ll plan to attend one of our upcoming events. We are trying something new this year: region-specific mixers. Three board members have volunteered to plan and host a mixer in an Inland Empire region: Riverside, Temecula/Murrieta and Coachella Valley. We selected these areas because our demographics show a good concentration of members there. You should feel free to attend the mixers even if it is not where you reside or work; they’ll be open to all members, and non-members are invited too, of course. Stay tuned!
If you are not already a member of the Inland Empire Chapter, we hope you see the value in joining. Benefits include expanding your network, access to exclusive resources through PRSA National, engaging events and contributing to your field (mentor or volunteer).
Visit our website to explore upcoming events and—if not already a member—learn more about becoming an active member of the Inland Empire Chapter. Diverse insights and talents greatly enrich our community.

P.S. Just for fun: If you are a grammar geek like me, you may enjoy reading about this new play, The Angry Grammarian (Read The New Yorker review). The song titles are hilarious: “Bring in Da Funk, Bring in Da Wagnalls,” “The Right Space” and “Whom Cares?” Anyone else still not quite on board about ending sentences with a preposition?
