From Your President: Let's Be SMART In 2024

During my drive to work after a nice, long holiday break, I was listening to an NPR story about new year’s resolutions. The reporter shared that the best way to stick with our goals is by using a specific strategy: SMART.

She described how goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound can boost your success rate. Not only did this story make me think about my work (and cause a flashback to my APR studies), it also illustrates how the criteria that we PR professionals follow is just good, solid guidance. It makes sense for a lot of different areas, but it’s especially important to employ the SMART goals strategy in the work we do in our dynamic, growing region.

The Inland Empire Chapter is here to support all PR and marketing professionals so they can serve their organizations with excellence, professionalism and ethical conduct. Take advantage of PRSA’s career-enhancing benefits. At the chapter level, one of the greatest perks is networking with like-minded peers and sharing ideas and best practices. I hope to see you at our professional development events, including January 25 (A region-specific overview and forecast, webinar) and Feb. 6 (a tour and talk about community relations strategy and tactics at the Riverside Art Museum/The Cheech).

Please get involved if you are not already, and encourage colleagues to join with you in learning the latest and meeting the greatest! The PRSA-IE board is having a retreat this weekend for its annual in-depth planning (with SMART goals!). On our agenda: professional development, APR support, mentoring/supporting students, DEI, ethics, networking events and annual awards. If you have ideas, suggestions or comments for us or you’d like to volunteer on a committee, please write to me anytime.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Graham, APR
President, PRSA-IE
